So much can be said about ‘West Coast Dreams’ by The Motion Epic. This one truly has a special place for us at Night City Vinyl, and for good reason: this record is timeless. The Motion Epic brings a familiar warmth in both lyrics and instrumentation, which sounds incredible on vinyl. Sofa King Vinyl had the foresight to bring this 2019 release to vinyl format in 2020, after previously only being available digitally, or a very limited 100 run cassette from Business Casual.
The Motion Epic explores romance, regret, and sometimes saxophone on the nostalgic journey across the 8 songs on ‘West Coast Dreams’. With the ballad “Forever Young (So Little Time” followed by the quicker pace of “True Romantics”, The Motion Epic demonstrates an incredible ability for variety and on-point delivery of the sounds that retrowave and synthwave lovers will appreciate. “Lonely Lovers” might just be your new go to song when you put the top down on the PCH, even if it is only from your bedroom or listening chair. The presentation of the JFK quote on the closing “Travelers”, ensures that ‘West Coast Dreams’ hits you right in the feels, if it hadn’t done so already. -NCV
